Sawnee Campground is a Forsyth County park on Lake Sidney Lanier. The reservoir was created in 1956 with the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River. Sawnee Campground lies just north of the Buford Dam and features beautiful views of the lake. The lake was named for the poet, Sidney Lanier, and is well known for its aqua-blue colored water and recreational activities.

We camphosted here in the winter of 2016-17 and enjoyed seeing the leaves change and meeting people from all over the US seeking warmer weather. The park is still a COE park but in 2025 became managed by Forsyth county and is not open all winter. Reservations are made through Forsyth County Parks and Recreations and they still honor the America The Beautiful Pass for seniors.

The campground is easy for big rigs and sites are level. There are two loops for camping with a lake view and one loop with shade trees. The primitive camping is on a point with gorgeous views of the lake.
