Shell Mound Campground is a Levy County Park located on Highway 326 about eight miles from the town of Cedar Key. This park was added to the Lower Suwannee NWR in 1998 and is now a protected cultural resource.There is a paved boat ramp and parking for boat trailers and a second boat ramp for kayaks or canoes. A boardwalk extends to a fishing or observation deck with great views of Hog Island.
We camped here overnight in March 2022 and enjoyed walking the Dennis Creek Trail and watching the beautiful sunset. The campground is small, rustic and fairly remote but perfect for overnight or if you love to fish. The dump station was a little hard to maneuver but we made it work. The town of Cedar Key is about 15 minutes away. DIRECTIONS:
From Cedar Key travel on State Road 24 for 2.8 mi Turn left onto SW County Road 347. travel 2.4 mi Turn left onto SW 78th PL (CR-326). Travel 3.2 mi Turn right to campground Google Maps |
