NEARBY ATTRACTIONS
Key West, FL

In the early 1900s, Henry Flagler turned the remote island of Bahia Honda Key into a tropical destination by his effort to build a railroad to Key West.  Bahia Honda Key's deep natural bay has been a harbor for passing sailors for many years.

The park is also an excellent place to observe wading birds and shorebirds, while the Sand and Sea Nature Center introduces nature lovers to the island’s plants and animals.

In 1966, the state purchased 200 additional acres on the island from Monroe County to bring the park size to 292 acres, and on March 17, 1984, a private landowner sold their property at the east end of Bahia Honda to the state, bringing the island of Bahia Honda under the responsibility of the Florida Park Service.

We stayed here in December 2018 on site #2. We were leaving Key West and decided to stop and explore the park. They just happen to have a vacancy and we were excited to be able to spend the night.
 DIRECTIONS FROM MIAMI FL:
Hwy 1 S
If traveling from West Coast then US 41 is a nice drive to US 1
