Gilbert Ray Campground is managed by Pima County and located on the west side of the Tucson Mountains. The registration building is staffed January through March only and has a self-pay station for the rest of the year.
We camped here in March 2018 for one night when visiting a high school friend in Tucson. We enjoyed hiking and seeing the amazing Sonora Desert Museum. It is a quiet campground in the desert with beautiful sunsets. We would love to return and take advantage of all the hikes available. DIRECTIONS from I-10 east of Tucson:
I-10 west to I-19 south. Exit at Ajo Way (exit #99) tun right. Go west to Kinney Road approximately 5 miles and turn right. Follow Kinney road to McCain Loop and turn left. The campground entrance is on the left. |
