"Homolovi" is Hopi for "Place of the Little Hills" and the traditional name for Winslow. Homolovi State Park was established in response to public concern about the devastation of the Homolovi sites by illegal collectors of prehistoric artifacts. The residents of Winslow and leaders of the Hopi people began work to protect these sites and hoped to see it become a State Park. The park officially opened in 1993 and is a wonderful place to see artifacts and ruins.
We camped here in March 2018 for two nights in our Travato van. The desert campground is very quiet and the sunsets are beautiful. The park is just off of I-40 and an excellent place to over nite and visit the Meteor Crater close by. We enjoyed walking and riding our bikes throughout the park. The artifacts are beautiful and it's amazing to see pieces on the ground and to be able to touch them. It is illegal to take anything from the park. Visiting the town of Winslow is a must while in this area to "stand on the corner." DIRECTIONS:
