NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Red Top Mountain State Park

Lake Allatoona is the oldest multipurpose project in the Corps' South Atlantic Division. Work began in 1941 but was discontinued by the outbreak of WWII. The dam was completed and began operating in 1950. Located just 30 miles from Atlanta, GA, Allatoona Lake is situated on the Etowah River, a tributary of the Coosa River.

McKinney Campground sits on Lake Allatoona and offers 150 sites to choose from and many are directly on the water. We have not camped here but rode through the park in June 2018 after camping close by at Red Top Mountain State Park. McKinney Campground always gets good reviews and we are looking forward to returning and camping.
