Old Federal Campground is a Corp of Engineer park on Lake Sidney Lanier. The reservoir was created in 1956 with the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River.
We camped here in August 2012 and several times in 2013. We always have a site facing Lake Lanier in a cove which is perfect for using our canoe. This lake offers swimming, water skiing, sailing, boating and fishing. The grounds are extremely clean and well kept. There are 84 sites with 10 pull-throughs and almost every site is lake front or lake view. The roads through the campground are paved and the site pads are paved. There is a boat ramp in the campground and a parking area for the boat trailer. We enjoy riding our bikes through the park and relaxing. There's not a trail here and most campers are on their boat enjoying beautiful Lake Lanier. We took our canoe out into the cove for fishing. It's August 2014 and we are camping once again here at Old Federal in our new 5th wheel. We've sold our canoe and bought an inflatable raft that will be easier to handle. Mike semi-retired in July of this year and we're staying close to home until the end of September. The plan is to head for Florida for the winter. We are back at Old Federal and it's April, 2015. This is our first time camping in our gently used Allegro Open Road Motorhome. We camped in Florida for the winter and ended up at Lazydays RV Resort. We traded in our fifth wheel and drove our motorhome back to Atlanta. Once again we have made a change and now travel in our Travato Van. It's August 2018 and we were able to snag a spot right on the point and it was wonderful. The cats enjoyed exploring close to the water and we really enjoy being at Old Federal Campground. DIRECTIONS FROM ATLANTA: Travel I-85 North to I-985 North to exit 8 (Friendship Rd/LakeLanier/Holiday Rd) and turn left towards Lake Lanier. Turn right onto McEver Road. Turn left onto Jim Crow Road. Jim Crow Road will turn into Old Federal Road. Continue to park entrance at end of road. |
