Point Mugu is a cape within Point Mugu State Park on the Pacific Coast in Ventura County. The nearest towns are Port Hueneme and the city of Oxnard. The park has 5 miles of shoreline and more than 70 miles of hiking trails.

The name is believed to come from the Chumash Indian term "Muwu" meaning "beach."  It is also a name applied to the nearby NAS Point Mugu, a test range facility.

We loved driving on the Pacific Coast Highway and couldn't believe we snagged a spot on the beach. These sites are primitive but no problem for us in our van with solar. The ocean breeze and the sound of the waves were amazing. There are no amenities here but it is wonderful to camp on the beach.

Sycamore Canyon is also part of Point Mugu State Park with 52 campsites available and a dump station. We were able to drive down to Sycamore Canyon Park and use their dump station.

DIRECTIONS:

15 miles south of Oxnard on Pacific Coast Highway One.
Located between Sycamore Cove and Point Mugu
