R Shaefer Heard COE Campground sits on the southern shore of West Point Lake which spans parts of Alabama and Georgia. The lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River surrounded by rolling fields and deep forests. West Point Lake is man-made and has 525 miles of shoreline.

We camped here on site #2 in October 2015 and had a gorgeous view of the lake. A few of the sites have a steep grade and pose a challenge for a big MH or Fifth Wheel. The only reason I gave a rating of 8.5 is due to no cell signal, wifi or cable. We were able to get three PBS stations with our antenna. Aside from that, this campground is gorgeous and the sites are set apart with plenty of trees and privacy.

The roads around the park are nicely paved and great for bike riding throughout the park. We would definitely camp here again and returned in October 2019 in our Travato van.

West Point is very close and we enjoyed the historic district. Johnny's Pizza is a great place for lunch. We also enjoyed hiking the West Point River Park Trails that runs next to the Chattahoochee River.
