Richard B. Russell State Park offers some of Georgia's best fishing and boating. There is camping and fully equipped cottages near the water's edge. The park is well-known for its disc golf course and traditional 18-hole Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course.

In 1980 several Indian sites were excavated near the park before the lake was filled. This indicated that Paleo-Indians lived in the area more than 10,000 years ago. This area is now called Rucker's Bottom and lies deep with in the waters of Lake Richard B. Russell.

Bring your boat for fishing or rent a canoe or Pedal Boat to enjoy the lake. If hiking or biking is what you enjoy then try the 6 miles of trails by the Muddy Spokes Club. The nature trail follows the shoreline to one of the oldest steel pin bridges in the area then loops through the woods and returns to the beach.

The prices for accommodations are:
  • • 2,508 Acres
    • 20 Cottages ($145-$165, higher during Masters Week)
  •  #1 and #2 are dog friendly ($45 per dog, max 2), cable TV, Wi-Fi
  • • 28 Tent, Trailer, RV Campsites ($27-$30) – cable TV hookups, Wi-Fi
    • 3 Picnic Shelters ($40)
    • Group Shelter (seats 175, $205)
    • Arrowhead Pointe Golf Course (18-Holes) ($44-$49 with cart)
    • 26,650-acre Lake with Swimming Beach (seasonal)

We did not camp here and cannot give our personal recommendation but we did drive through and take pictures and talk to the ranger. This park is well off the interstate and we were told it was a favorite park for people locally.
