NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Hartwell Dam
Victoria Bryant State Park

The name Tugaloo comes from an Indian name for the river which once flowed here prior to the construction of Hartwell Dam.

We camped here in May 2012 and had a pull-through site facing Lake Hartwell. This lake offers swimming, water skiing, sailing, boating and fishing.

Some of the cottages have a private boat dock for overnight guests. There is a Trading Post at the entrance to the park for signing in, maps and those forgotten items. They have a few snack items and a drink machine.

The Muscadine Trail is a 3/4 mile easy loop with a few hills. We had to come out of the woods and cross the park road to continue the trail. This trail is good for all levels and connects to the Sassafras Trail

The Sassafras Loop Trail is a 3.6 mile loop and is easy to moderate. This trail is blue blazed and well marked. The trail winds through the woods of cherry, oak, mulberry and walnut trees. Great views of Lake Hartwell.

DIRECTIONS FROM ATLANTA:

Take I-85 North to exit #173 and turn left on GA 17.
Turn right on Gerrard Road and travel 1.5 miles.
Turn left onto GA Hwy 328 and travel 3.3 miles to park.
Entrance will be on the right.
There is a huge speed bump before reaching the gate.
